ACT FAQ's:

What are the steps to begin a program like ACT?

How it began...

In May of 1992, the Academy of Construction Trades (ACT),re-named to Academy of Construction Technologies, was formed. ACT is a consortium of several Central Florida Construction Trade Associations, Business and Industry Partners both union and non-union.
The consortium is dedicated to a partnership with government and the School Boards of Orange, Osceola and Seminole Counties to "Train our Future Work Force Today!"
During the past few years ACT has positioned itself as a leader and model for the State of Florida in youth/pre- apprenticeship training for high school students in construction careers.
Below are the steps that were used to develop the ACT program. We hope this will give you a guide to start with.

1. Confirm the need for trade apprenticeship occupations.
2. Develop industry/employee/education group support.
3. Formulate a comprehensive development plan.
4. Have a plan approved.
5. Secure funding commitment.
6. Apply for State Program Registration.
7. Research requirements for the Child Labor Law.
8. Arrange for a facility, equipment and supplies.
9. Develop a marketing plan to reach the parents, students, counselors, school administrators and contractors.
10. Select an instructional staff.
11. Publicize and enroll youth/pre-apprentices.
12. Secure sponsors.
13. Develop a program monitoring plan.
14. Start the program.

Please contact the ACT office for more information. We will be happy to guide you in the right direction in promoting construction careers for your students.
