NAWIC/MAGIC Program
Call to Order ? 4:05 pm by Pat Walker
Introductions
September 5th, 2007 ? 1st motion to approved, David Beasley; 2nd motion Kevin Corrado-all all accepted for minutes to be approved.
Financial Reports ? Reviewed by David Beasley. 1st motion to approve, Kevin Corrado; 2nd motion, Tom Runnels, all accepted for financials to be approved. A/R Centex(Balfour Beatty) ? David Beasley asked for invoice to stay , he believes ACT will collect, he will call again. Florida Rock & Rinker(Cemex), both Keith Sommer and Jeff Jones absent, Nancy to follow up with each of them to see if any progress has been made.
The Board of Trustee?s will have a meeting in November to plan and approve the 2008 budget.
Executive Director?s Report ? Nancy Merced
New member-Tharp Plumbing Systems.
Live demonstration of the new ACT website. www.actcareers.com Website received great reviews and comments from all members in the room.
Nancy informed board the $125,000 grant Harvey Levine had offered information about (reference August 29, 2007) had been awarded to the HBA.
County School Reports
OCPS ?Ocoee High School is looking at having an Academy of Building Construction class. Rob Moody at Westside Technical School is helping get the class up and going. 6 instruction from Orange County will be attending the October 19th NCEER class ? Harvey Levine
Osceola ?TECO class numbers are as follows; Carpentry ? full; electrical ? full; HVAC ? full; if other districts are full please inform students TECO has openings. TECO has hired a new electrical teacher but will be another month before he starts. Charles Kerns is filling in until then. New instructed at OHS, Nancy is going out to see him. Harmony High School/George Bright classes are full. ? Tom Runnels
Seminole ?Masonry Association is hosting an NCEER class on October 17th. 7 teachers from Seminole, 3 from SCC, 6 from Orange County, and 3 from Lake County have signed up. Typically the course is 2 ? days, but this special class will be completed in one day. New DEO running all dual enrollment classes are to be weighted for graduating seniors GPA. This is a great thing for the ACT program, and will help in recruiting.
Old Business Update
Golf Tournament ? Mike Cornelius absent, but George Kania said it is progressing. Date is still first Friday in December. Location is still being finalized. Pat suggested a golf committee needs to be assigned. Robert Vaughn, Nancy Merced, Pat Walker, JR Blair, and George Kania agreed to serve on committee.
Marketing ? Kevin Corrado reported the letter has been approved by all three participating counties. He asked each county to report a total number of sophomores to him by October 17th so he can aquire budget for printing/postage. Harvey Levine stated his total number of sophomores for Orange County would be around 12,000. Breakfast meeting per county is still progressing. Kevin asked each county to provide a few dates all the guidance counselors could meet. Joe O stated January 18th would be a good day for Seminole. He will check that day and get back to Kevin.
2008 Election ?George Kania went over open positions. As of today?s meeting, 8 members had responded to open positions. Mike Friener, Robert Vaughn, Jeff Jones, Lynn Leach, Don Young, Kevin McNealy, JR Blair, and Andy Yarber. The Board of Trustees will vote on open positions at their November 7th meeting.
New Business

Annual Breakfast- Nancy reviewed two quotes. Citrus Club, 1690.00 and Masion Jardin, $2400. This quote is for food and location only. Invitations and any decorations or hand-outs will be additional. Joe O suggested Tap Room at Dubsdred. Nancy will check with them for price. If price is more than $1700, David Beasley made a motion to book Citrus Club, Harvey Levine, 2nd motion-all agreed.
MAGIC-Mentor a Girl in Construction program by NAWIC was presented by Pat Walker. Hand out of an overview for the program was given out. Members/board like the program and is will to help NAWIC. Pat will bring more information back to the ACT members once NAWIC has formed a committee.
David Beasley ? Electrical Council of Florida (ECF) Outreach Committee has agreed to continue its scholarship program. Jaime Fugate at FEAT sent out a survey to past FEAT students. 7 Students responded. Results were very good, 6 out of 7 are still in the electrical field. David is still looking for suggestions on presenting the award/money to the students.
